Location
Poznan, PolandDanish Energy Export and the Royal Danish Embassy in Warsaw invite you to participate in our bioenergy-focused market visit to Poznań from March 24–26 2025
Gain valuable insights into Poland’s expanding biogas and biomethane sectors while connecting with key decision-makers and leading stakeholders in the industry. Participants will engage in expert panel discussions addressing market regulations, financing options, and technological advancements. Furthermore, the event offers opportunities for B2B meetings, fostering future collaborations with representatives from local municipalities and agri-food enterprises.
Opportunities for Danish Businesses
Danish companies are encouraged to explore the rapidly growing Polish bioenergy market. With Poland’s biogas and biomethane sectors primed for substantial development, this presents excellent prospects for expansion and collaboration.
Market Overview
Poland's biogas industry is on the brink of significant expansion, with the government targeting biomethane production of 1 billion cubic meters annually by 2030. Reaching this goal will require the development of approximately 500 new biomethane facilities, creating substantial opportunities for Danish companies with expertise in this sector. Additionally, the latest report from the Polish Biomethane Organization highlights a production potential of up to 16 billion cubic meters of biomethane per year. The realistically available substrates for production, however, support a feasible output of 9 billion cubic meters annually.
Key Opportunities
- Technology and Equipment: Polish biogas plants are actively seeking advanced technologies and systems to upgrade biogas into biomethane, a field where Danish companies hold a competitive edge
- Project Development: With 30 biogas plants currently under development and an additional 150–200 projects in the pipeline, the need for skilled project developers is rapidly growing
- Waste Management Solutions: Poland’s focus on enhancing biodegradable waste management opens doors for Danish companies specializing in waste-to-energy innovations
- Investment and Partnerships: The Polish biogas sector is drawing significant interest from foreign investors, fostering joint ventures and collaborations between Polish and international businesses
Funding and Support
The Polish government and EU are providing substantial financial support for biogas development:
- Over €89 million from the FEnIKS program
- €309 million from EU funding for biogas investments
- €720 million for the "Energy for the countryside" program
- An additional €720 million for intelligent energy infrastructure
Market Potential
Poland's biogas production potential is estimated at nearly 7.8 billion cubic meters annually, primarily derived from agricultural residues and municipal biowaste. Combined with the country’s strong agricultural sector, this makes Poland an appealing market for Danish biogas companies. As of 2020, Poland had 335 biogas plants, many of which are in need of modernization. According to the "Energy Policy of Poland 2040," biogas and biomethane production will be instrumental in achieving CO2 emission reductions. European investments of €27 billion are planned by 2030 to support 950 new installations and an additional 6.3 billion cubic meters of capacity annually, according to Harmen Dekker, President of the European Biogas Association. Poland is anticipated to be a key destination for these investments, demonstrating a strong industry commitment to accelerate progress—an effort expected to take off in the near future.
