MARKET OVERVIEW
Germany
Germany's offshore wind market is a key pillar of its energy transition, backed by strong government policies, ambitious capacity targets, and increasing investor interest. Germany aims to expand its offshore wind capacity to 30 GW by 2030, 40 GW by 2035, and 70 GW by 2045.
Exciting developments include:
- Major wind energy auctions creating new investment opportunities.
- Faster permitting & repowering projects to boost efficiency.
- Stronger grid expansion & storage solutions for a resilient energy system.
Despite past challenges, Germany’s wind sector is now positioned for accelerated growth and high returns. If you're looking to enter or expand in this market, there’s no better time than now!
Netherlands
The Netherlands is making waves in offshore wind, setting a target of 21 GW by 2030 and leading the way in subsidy-free wind farms. This innovative market is opening doors for companies to pioneer next-generation wind technologies and integrated energy solutions.
Key opportunities include:
- Massive offshore wind farm expansions with government-backed tenders.
- Hybrid energy hubs strengthening grid stability.
- Growing demand for corporate PPAs as businesses go green.
With strong political backing and world-class infrastructure, the Dutch wind sector offers huge potential for companies ready to innovate and invest.
Belgium
With a total capacity of 2.2 GW of operational offshore wind in the Belgian part of the North Sea, the current construction of the world’s first artificial energy island (Princess Elisabeth Island) and a target of 5.4-5.8 GW in 2030, the Belgian market is indeed also interesting to look at.
Key opportunities include:
- Three upcoming offshore wind tenders with a maximum installed capacity of 3.5 GW to be operational by 2030:
- First tender on a 700 MW offshore wind park is currently published – submission deadline 25th of August 2025 and allocation by 26 December 2025.
- Second tenders with a capacity each of 1225-1400 MW to be organised by 2026-2028.
